Episode 32 | Wireless Wattage | Solace Power
I didn't have to look far for this week's guest. It turns out I picked up their business card at a TechConnect conference in Washington, D.C. last year.
The company is Solace Power, and they've been in business since 2007.
Wireless power can be broken down into the following categories:
- Near Field
- Inductive Coupling--Power transferred through magnetic fields through coiled wire
- Capacitive Coupling--Power transferred through electric fields electrodes through electrodes
- Far Field
- Microwaves and Lasers--Power transferred through beams of electromagnetic radiation, must be precisely focused
Solace uses a proprietary "Resonant Capacitive Coupling" technology. I spoke to their VP of Business Development, Neil Chaulk, about the market segment they've chosen, why even a few inches can be transformative for market segments such as automobile parts and drones, and if a "standard" is needed with all the different wireless companies out there.
